SuperBowl Prop Bets
There are lots of interesting betting possibilities when it comes to this week's Super Bowl, annually the biggest betting weekend of the year. Here are some of the prop bets available at BetEagle for the NFL championship.
Much has been made of Bears' quarterback Rex Grossman who seems to have settled down after a very inconsistent season, his first as a starter in the NFL. Grossman will be up against the league's best quarterback in Peyton Manning, and he will want to be able to, at least, hold his own against a Colts' defense that can be exposed. Also, the Chicago running game has to get off to a fast start to take some of the pressure off of their young quarterback. Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson have formed a great one-two punch out of the backfield this season, and will need to continue that against the Colts, who gave up 375 yards on the ground against Jacksonville earlier this season.
There are a number of prop bets for the Bears' offense, such as what will happen on their first possession. A punt attempt is favored over a touchdown at -240, which does not bode well, because a quick start is essential to building the confidence of Grossman and the Bears. Chicago is also listed at -135 that they will not score in either quarter of the first half. This will put more of a burden on the Bears' defense to stop the high-flying Colts' offense. The Bears are, however, favored at -135 to make over 4.5 first downs, which is important for keeping drives going as well as keeping Manning and his stable of weapons on the sidelines. The Bears are then rated at -130 to fail on fourth down, and this could become crucial in the late stages of a close game.
On the flip side, the Colts are rated at -145 to punt on their first possession, and it will be interesting to see if the Colts, especially Manning and receiver Marvin Harrison, come out early with any fire. If the Colts can jump out to a quick lead, it could rattle Grossman on the other side of the ball. The Colts are also listed at -115 to convert over 6 third downs, but set at -240 to not covert on a fourth down. If the Colts fail to move the chains against the Bears, they will be in for a long day in Miami on Sunday. But Adam Vinatieri is a good bet to continue his great postseason play, rated at -130 to kick the longest field goal in Sunday's big game.
