Indianapolis Colts (5-0) at Jacksonville Jaguars (4-1) +3
This Monday night there will be a big AFC South match up when the Colts travel to sunny Florida to play the Jaguars. Both teams are at the top of the division and want to keep it that way. The Colts are playing great football yet nobody is really talking about them as the New England Patriots have stolen the spotlight. They are still undefeated and the defending champions. The Jaguars have played well and have a good defense and a solid offense led by first year starter David Gerrard. This is the Colts first big test and the Jaguars can show people they are one of the better teams in the league with a win on Monday night. Last week the Jaguars beat the Houston Texans 37-17. The Colts had a bye but the week before beat the Tampa bay Buccaneers 33-14. This can be the main stage that the Jaguars are looking for and can really establish themselves with a good showing on Monday night, while the Colts keep on winning and look to distance themselves in the tough AFC South.
The Indianapolis Colts are led by future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (1319 10 TD 2 INT) guiding the leagues 3rd rated offense. Manning has not racked up the yards he has in years past and it is because he has more support. The rushing attack of the Colts is led by Joseph Addai (407 yds 5 TD) who has played well and not let opposing defenses focus on Manning's arm. Manning's targets Reggie Wayne (28 rec 369 yds 4 TD) and Tight End Dallas Clark (26 rec 300 yds 5 TD). The Colts offense has been clicking on all cylinders and they spread it around more than they have in recent years. The Colts have a strong offensive line and have opened up holes for Addai and protected Manning making it tough to beat the defending champs. The Colts are ranked 5th on defense and are led by CB Marlin Jackson (43 tackles) and Safety Bob Sanders (2.5 sacks). The Colts will not manhandle any teams on defense but beat them with solid team play and good old fashioned good tackling.
The Jaguars and their 7th rated offense are led by first year starter David Gerrard (1069 yds 6 TD 0 INT) who has played smart football and not made many mistakes running the Jags this year. Their rushing attack is led by Maurice Jones-Drew (307 yds) who is not spectacular but has played well enough to move the chains this year. Gerrard's main target is Dennis Northcutt (19 rec). The Jaguars are not a high scoring team but are led by their defense. The Jaguars defense are ranked 8th in the league and are especially tough against the run. The Jags are a team oriented D who have no player in the top 30 in tackles or top 25 in sacks in the league. They swarm the ball and have a hard-hitting secondary. The Jaguars are a grinding team and if they can keep Manning off the field for a long period of time and put up some points they will surprise some this Monday. Look for a low scoring game, even with the Colts, and for the Jags to give the Colts their first loss of the season.
